Cruising History

Faun has cruised to Alaska at least twice and has taken part in long distance log-racing. Plaques from two such races still mounted in the wheelhouse commemorate participation in the International Cruiser Race sponsored by the International Powerboat Association.

In July of 1947, Faun participated in a record-breaking race from Bremerton to Nanaimo, the second year of its revival following WWII. 120 cruisers participated in the 145 mile race, and Faun, with W.H. Merritt (QCYC) at the helm, ran the course with an error factor of only 4.940% over 145 miles. In July, 1948, she participated in the race once again, this time between Tacoma and Vancouver, with Merritt at the helm once more.

Faun's current owners use the vessel year round, spending summers on the waters of Puget Sound, the San Juan Islands, the Canadian Gulf Islands and Desolation Sound, and winters in Seattle.
