I heard from Plating Specialties yesterday. They had mistaken the transmission top cover as aluminum and destroyed it in the acid bath during the copper removal process. It was a zinc. I guess Harley chose to use a zinc cast for that piece because it does not host any bearing load, just a cover. PS had to buy a new one to replace it and then immediately strip it. Seems wrong but you can't buy a new non-chromed piece.
