Paris 1935
Madame Marcelle Lambert works in the office of Premier Pierre Laval at the Hotel Matignon. While at the Quai d'Orsay meeting with her colleague Madame Bardoux of the foreign ministry, she meets American diplomat Dexter Jones. She attends a series of literary and political salons with Dexter over the course of the summer of 1935 while also diligently working with Premier Laval on implementing a major budget reduction program. Laval is also negotiating with Great Britain and Italy on averting an international crisis over Italy's designs on the African nation of Ethiopia.
