I enjoy designing programs and lessons based on the individual needs of my students. I use a hands-on, multi-sensory approach, meaning that I use games, projects, crafts, and more. These strategies improve retention and make learning more fun.
When I provide homework support, I check for gaps in understanding and skills. Parents recommend me because I'm able to fill these gaps and build solid foundations.
My experience teaching every grade from K-12 has strengthened my ability to meet the needs of my students. I've worked with children who are gifted, as well as those who have special needs, including Down Syndrome, ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, anxiety, depression, and sensory processing disorder.
I've tutored students using a variety of math programs, including Everyday Math, Teaching Textbooks, Saxon, Math in Focus, and Singapore. I work on building solid conceptual knowledge and a strong skill set. When teaching any subject, I also work to build confidence, independence, and study skills.
I use a combination of phonics and sight words to build confident, fluent readers. I use best practices that are recommended for students who have dyslexia. I work to build comprehension skills and strategies. For writing, I focus on building proper grammar, structure, and style.
Andy Andrews said, "Everybody wants to reach the peak, but there is no growth on the top of a mountain. It is in the valley that we slog through the lush grass and rich soil, learning and becoming what enables us to summit life's next peak."
My goal is to be there for my students every step of the way. While it's exciting to reach learning peaks, children need teachers who respect the learning process and are willing to climb the mountain at their pace. I truly value my students and work to build relationships of trust and mutual respect.
