2 MWVMS Midwest Regional
The 2018 Midwest Regional Varmint Match was shot at the Wabash range on May 5th. For the first time in the match's 15 year history, the 400 yard targets were shot first. The format change was announced as permanent, and to be used at all future MWVMS matches held at Wabash. This change had been advocated for years by some shooters, but the total wipe-out of bullet hole visibility at 400 yards by mirage at the 2018 ToadWalker match precipitated a large wave of concern. It was announced that the change was brought on "by popular demand".

State Teams
There were a total of eight teams this year. Four were from Ohio, three from Indiana and one from Michigan. Ohio had a new team this year, the Buckeye Bangers. The winner this year was the Buckeye Bullets. It was a first time win for them.
Match coordinator Dallas Walker (below left) supervises distribution of door prizes. A double blind drawing is used to ensure randomness of prize distribution and to make sure everyone who registers gets one. Thousands of dollars worth of prizes are donated each year by gun industry manufacturers. Past prizes have included Haverkamp actions and Sightron scopes. Many companies donate gift certificates for hundreds of dollars worth of their products.
Below is Sarah Sickmeyer's phenomenal 400 yard target, shot at the 2018 Regional with her custom rifle. The X ring is .82" diameter. This is the first ever 4X on that target. As a matter of fact, there has only ever been one 3X shot on that target in the Regional, and that was with a factory rifle at the 2014 match. There was only one other 3X on this target period, and that was shot in the 2015 Cannonball match, also with a factory rifle!
