About Us
If you are interested in radio/controlled model sailboats, this is the place to visit. This web site will tell you when and where we sail. Click CALENDAR/SCHEDULE for sailing information. The PHOTOS and VIDEOS section will give you more information about sailing in general and sailing model sailboats.
We sail four different models; The Star 45, Soling 1 Meter, V-32, Dragon Force 65 and Dragon Flite 95. Information on these classes of model sailboats can be found by clicking on CLUB FLEETS. More photos of the fleets will be added each summer.
We are very proud of our participation both in local events and National events. MVMYC has hosted the CR914 National Championship Regatta (NCR), EC12 NCRs (47 boats), Odom NCR, US1M NCRs, numerous Star 45 NCRs & Regional Championships, and the 2016 V-32 NCR. MVMYC is also proud to home base of two Star 45 Nationals Champions, a US1 Meter National Champion, and the 2016 V-32 National Champion.
Come one, Come all. All ages, levels of sailing experience, male / female skippers are welcome. Our current membership has skippers ranging in age from 37 to 80+. We also have a number who have never sailed big boats and are still learning the ropes… and we have two active National Champions. So, whether you are looking for a relaxing group to come sail with, or some cut throat One Design racing, MVMYC is the place to be.
At any of our scheduled weekday or Saturday Fun events, club members will be happy to hand you their transmitter so you can get the feel for what it is like to sail remotely. Even veteran big-boat skippers are surprised by the similarities and as well as the differences.
When do we sail
Starting in April and running through October, we are currently sail on Tuesdays and Saturdays. (See CALENDAR /SCHEDULE). Scored racing is what keeps skippers coming back, and fun days are relaxing for those that want a more laid-back kind of activity. Rules, tactics, strategy, tuning, construction and rigging are regularly discussed at the pond and presented at our winter meetings.
