DIY Remote Sensing

IMG_0019

Remote sensing is traditionally performed using aerial photographs taken from air planes or images captured by satellites. These images are often problematic for several reasons: either the scale is too small, the images are too bright, or the temporal resolution is not useful. To solve this problem, I've been experimenting with "Do It Yourself" remote sensing. I've been working with two platforms for lifting a camera: A hobby hot air balloon and various kites. I'll be sharing my work with the Public Laboratory for Open Technology and Science, a group dedicated to teaching people to use mapping technology for solving local environmental and social justice problems. I'll link my relevant posts here.
