Scholarship Description

• To promote the study of textile and fiber arts, Mt Lassen Fiber Guild is pleased to offer a scholarship to

a deserving student pursuing a degree at an accredited community college or university. Emphasis must be

in the textile and fiber arts or in agriculture, either cultivating textile fiber-producing crops or managing flocks

to produce textile-quality fleece.

• Eligible applicants include students whose permanent residence is in one of the Northern California counties served

by the guild: Butte, Glenn, Tehama, Shasta, Siskiyou, Lassen, Shasta, Modoc, Plumas, Yuba, Colusa and Sutter Counties.

• Scholarship amounts and number of recipients vary each year.

• Scholarship funds must be used within the academic year or forfeited.

• The scholarship is awarded in September for the current academic year and includes one year Guild membership

with eligibility to participate in all Guild activities for the year, including full access to member-only electronic library

and periodical subscriptions.

• Scholarship applicants and award recipient will be notified no later than April 30, 2022.

• The scholarship recipient will be announced to the membership at the following Guild meeting.

• Decisions of the judges will be final.

Qualifications and Information

Eligible applicants must:

a) Enroll no later than Spring/Fall 2022 at an accredited college or university in a fiber arts-related or agricultural course of study as defined below in c).

b) Submit official documentation signed by the school's registrar, verifying enrollment.

Scholarship funds will be released only when this documentation is received.

c) Focus on fiber art, a broad field including spinning, weaving, textiles, surface design, fabric styling, fashion design, accessories, marketing, jewelry design, production management, visual presentation, exhibition design, agricultural cultivation of textile fiber-producing crops such as flax, cotton, or hemp, flock and fleece management of textile-quality fleece-producing animals such as alpacas, pygoras, natural-color and heritage sheep breeds, and more.
