The Fenton Hut

By 1988 vandalism was recognised as a significant ongoing problem and Parks and Wildlife Service rangers proposed removing the hut. A report noted that visitors were removing interior lining for firewood with one interior wall already completely demolished and another half demolished. By that time visitors were no longer able to drive right up to the hut. Following reports by the Service’s Archaeology Section the hut was retained although proposals to provide interpretation and a composting clivus multrum toilet were abandoned. It was also proposed to allow camping without advertising such and to provide firewood to encourage users not to remove pine lining for firewood
