ME 227 taught me how to powerslide and drift, among other things.
I like dynamics, and I love cars, so I took this class. We learned a lot about modeling the motion of a car and the forces that act on it. Chris Gerdes, the teacher, does some very interesting research, including autonomously drifting cars off-road and scaling Pike's Peak in an autonomous Audi TTS. For my final project, I, along with Myles Lam and Vivian Lee, simulated tire blowouts and designed a system that would maintain stability after a tire blowout. This was great fun, and I learned a lot about tranfer functions and solving nonlinear problems. Read our report: Lam, Lambert, Lee. Tire Blowout Electronic Stability Control (TB-ESC), 2009.
