All classes and office hours will be in the zoom channel 399-145-5389 or follow this link https://zoom.us/j/3991455389 New lesson will be taught at 10 AM and noon.
Old lesson links are in the old homework tab.
Chapter 3 retake is ready. You need to set up a time with me to go over your original test before I will send you a link for the retake.

Hello and welcome to Honors Pre-Calc ONLINE. There are not going to be major changes to the course however I would like to address what will be changing. It will be important for you to check out my website most days. I will be updating the website with the week’s material on Mondays like normal but there may be changes throughout the week so checking back often will be helpful. Included on the website will be PDF copies of lecture slides, solution guides for homework, links to lessons on YouTube, as well as other important information. If any of the following policies do not work for you because of technology issues, time issues or other issues, let me know through email or remind and I am sure we can work something out.
I know many of you are worried about your grade. The district has told us that students grades should not drop from their 3rd quarter grade but they can go up. I have been told that this does not mean that if you are happy with your grade you can blow off class for the rest of the semester. Myself, admin and the councilors will track you down if you are not doing what you need to do to be successful during this time. I still need you to learn the new material for future math classes. I will still be assigning homework and tests for the material that we still need to cover (see their respective sections below). I am willing to work with you to make sure that you are learning new material and to help you get your grade to a level that you are happy with.
I will be presenting lessons/review sessions four days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday) twice a day at 10 AM and noon. Both lessons will be the same so you only need to attend one of them or you can wait until the lesson is posted on YouTube and then you can watch it anytime. These will be the same lessons that I would have done in class if we were still in school. See weekly schedule below.
Homework is still optional and can only help your grade and will be graded based on completion. I will be assigning practice problems with each lesson to help you understand the material. I will be collecting the homework by having you take a photo of you work and sending it to me through email around test time if you want it graded.
Tests will be done through Microsoft surveys. Through UHS you have access to Microsoft 365 and Mr. Gribble is working on an infographic if you are having trouble getting access. You should be able to log in to Microsoft365 using the login of “your matric number”@s.tusd1.org and you password is your normal TUSD password. There is no place to put in your work so I will be making assumptions based on your answer for partial credit. At this time I do not think I will be able to retakes similar to the first three quarters of the school year but I will have opportunities for you to improve test grades through one on one Zoom meetings (this will include the chapter 3 test from before spring break). If you did not take the chapter 3 test I will have a Microsoft form ready soon for you to make it up. Academic integrity is still important. Tests will be open book, open notes but please do not use any help from online sources or apps. You will use the remaining material again in future math classes and it will be easier for you to learn it now so you can use it later in more difficult problems then learning the basics and what they are used for in future math classes at the same time.
I will be online in Zoom before and after lectures (see Schedule below) to answer questions. Feel free to drop by anytime during those hours for help. Appointment times are for reviewing tests, test retakes or if you are completely lost on the material. Make sure you watch the lesson before making an appointment because I do not want to use that time to reteach entire lessons. If these times do not work for you then let me know through email or remind and we can set up a time that works for the both of us.
The admin is looking at options to let students get their things out of their lockers but until then if you do not have your book at home I will be posting pictures of the homework problems out of my book on my website. Almost everyone said that the example photo would work for them. For the few that it did not work for let me know and we can work something out.
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday:
I will be in Zoom from 9 AM-1 PM with daily lessons at 10 AM and noon. Both lessons will be the same thing so you only need to be at one of them or you can watch lesson at any time once it is posted on YouTube. From 1-3 I will be available for help by appointment. Fridays I will be off of zoom from 11-11:40.
Wednesday:
I will have drop in help in Zoom from 10-1 and I will be available for help by appointment from 1-3.
If the Zoom help hours do not work for you then you can set up an appointment for another time and I will let you know if I am available.

All information will be shared with each class.
I will be posting questions and answers from the survey here.
Q: What all is expected from the students?
A: I will be hosting zoom meetings with lectures. It has a screen share option and I have my lesson files at home. I will be going over the lessons and will be taking questions from anyone who is watching live. I will be assigning practice problems but as of right now I do not have a good way of collecting them for a grade.
Q: What are tests going to be like?
A: I am not sure yet. Both TUSD and UHS admin are looking into ways to test students especially if this goes on longer than April 13th.
Q: I have not heard from all my teacher yet so I am not sure if the 10 AM time overlaps with other classes.
A: Admin has set up a calendar for teachers that I will keep looking at to see if there are any major conflicts in class time. Also the classes will be recorded and posted either on my website or possibly on a YouTube channel.
Q: I missed the day of the chapter 3 test or I think I did poorly on it and was relaying on retaking it, how will this effect my grade?
A: I will have the chapter 3 test graded soon and entered for the students that did take it. As soon as I find a good way to test on line the chapter 3 makeup and retake will be available.
Q: Are zoom meetings mandatory?
A: Zoom meetings are not mandatory, if you can learn the material from the book or other online sources then keep doing that.
Q: How do zoom meeting work?
A: I will post a link to a zoom meeting as well as a code that you can use on the website. Using a webcam you will be able to see me as well as I can share my screen and you can see me do examples. Imagine a normal class where you can see my smartboard and every thing that I write and you can hear everything that I say. You can ask questions either by in meeting messaging or by saying your question if you have a computer with a microphone. I can also set up one on one meetings with zoom where we can talk through problems together.
Q: Will I be prepared for future math classes this way?
A: If school was going on as normal there would be 3 more sections that we would have covered. Chapter 4 which is on polynomials and rational functions, chapter 5 which is on logarithms and exponential functions and then the important information from chapters 6 and 7, solving systems of equations and matrices. I will be going over chapters 4 and 5 and with time remaining I will go over the most important parts of 6 and 7 (Which is how to use your calculator to solve systems quickly). You will have all the skills you need to be successful in future math classes.
Q: I have never used zoom before and I am not sure how to use it.
A: I will do a practice zoom a couple of times later this week where you can check in with me and see how easy it is to use and what it will look like on your computer. I will send out info here and on remind when this will happen.
Q: I did not bring home my book, how will I do practice problems?
A: I am looking into a couple options to post pages for you to access or I might just create worksheet with similar problems.
Q: How will we turn in homework/do tests?
A: I will give you practice problems from the book or through worksheets. If I can find a good way for you to turn in your work online, I will collect it for a grade. Homework will still be optional and can only help your grade so if I cannot find a good way to collect it then it will just be for your practice. I understand that it is difficult to write about math steps on a computer and will take that into account when it comes to tests. I will let you know what I expect from you before we take our first online test.
You will find problems that you will not know how to solve, but I urge you to try. Every time you try something, you lean more about the problem. Often you get a clue as to what to try next.
If you discover something about the problem, you have learned something and will be better equipped to solve other problems. The key is to try in an organized way and learn from your trials.
