Syracuse University Project Advance (SUPA) is an educational program that provides high school students with the opportunity to take Syracuse University courses in their own schools during the regularly scheduled school day. After successful completion of the course(s) they can request to transfer the credits they earn into the colleges/universities they attend after high school. This is an example of a Concurrent Enrollment Program or Partnership (CEP).
BIO 121 (4 credits) is the first course in the two-course sequence exploring fundamental characteristics of life from the molecular level to the ecological community. Units within Bio 121 include Measurements and Scientific Methodology, Microscopy, Biochemistry, Cellular Structure & Function, Cellular Energetics, Genetics, Biotechnology, and the Origin and Evolution of Living Things.
BIO 123 (3 Credits) is the second course comprised of a survey of major biological concepts ranging from the molecular to global ecology. Units covered are Biodiversity, Plant Structure and Function, Human and Comparative Animal Anatomy and Function, Ecology, and Evolution.
BIO 124 (1 credit) is the lab course associated with BIO 123 and includes inquiry base exploration and practical application of concepts discussed in Bio 123. Please note: Dissection(s) are required in this course.
Any student planning on taking the AP Bio Exam in the month of May should also:
● Be prepared to independently study materials that will not be covered in class
● Purchase the AP* Test Prep Series; Biology Campbell and Reece 9th or 10th Edition or the most recent edition by Fred W. Holtzclaw and Theresa K. Holtzclaw. The Test Prep Series can be purchased from amazon.com or the Barnes and Noble book store.
Students wishing to receive college credit must also register for the course with Syracuse University. YOU WILL NEED YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER FOR REGISTRATION! You will be registering for two 4-credit Syracuse University Biology courses: BIO 121 (Fall Semester) and BIO 123 with BIO 124 (Spring Semester).
Registration is electronic via the SUPA website: https://pass.supa.syr.edu.
The registration portal opens Tuesday September 3rd, 2019 and closes Thursday October 4th, 2019. Your signed application form is due to Project Advance (via US mail or fax) on/before October 11th.
