Art Syllabus

Wetsch’s Art Classes

Course Objectives:

  1. To become aware of the fine art’s mediums such as drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, ceramics and sculpture through demonstrations, slide shows, group critiques and participation in local shows.
  2. To learn art terms and techniques.
  3. To have a variety of experiences in drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, ceramics and sculpture.
  4. Help you become a critical thinker. Do you ask pertinent questions, admit a lack of understanding or information, have a sense of curiosity, find new solutions, examine beliefs, assumptions, and opinions and weigh them against facts, listen carefully to others and give feedback, look for proof, examine problems closely, or are able to reject information that is incorrect or irrelevant?

Student Responsibilities:

  1. You must complete all assignments on time and participate in class discussions and critiques.
  2. You are required to help clean up at the end of class and maintain the studio, which includes tables, sink, counters, wedging table, throwing wheels, and floors.
  3. Students must pay attention and listen to demonstrations in order to successfully complete work.
  4. Students are required to “USE YOUR COMMON SENSE.”
  5. Please be RESPECTFUL of yourself and others. (public vs. private language, positive comments only, don’t touch other people’s stuff:)

Grading is based on the following criteria:

Scoring the requirements will be on a 5 point scale for daily lab points (25 pts per week) and projects (usually 50 pts each.) You will be asked to rate yourself on each category on the requirement sheet.

5= Goes beyond what is asked, extraordinary

4= Excellent

3= Good

2= Lacking Quality

1= Unsatisfactory

0 = Not Completed, Not Present

1. Projects are given in class. They are due on time.

2. Observable and measurable behaviors: DO finish your work on time, DO your work all hour, DO clean up after yourself, DO you love what you do, DO demonstrate student responsibilities.

3. Attendance is important. You can easily fall behind if you are excessively absent. All work occurs in the art room…so, you have to be here.

4. Self-evaluations. I will ask you to verbalize about your artwork and the work of others. Think about how you could make it better, what you like about it, were you successful or do you think another artist was successful?

5. Extra work time will be available after school. Check with me about working on projects during lunch or during study hall (must have a note from me prior to study hall.)
