Inclusive Education
What is Inclusive Education?
Inclusive education happens when children with and without disabilities participate and learn together in the same classes, according to the LRE. Research shows that when a child with disabilities attends classes alongside peers who do not have disabilities, there are many benefits for both student groups.
*** Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) is the requirement in federal law that students with disabilities receive their education, to the maximum extent appropriate, with nondisabled peers and that special education students are not removed from regular classes unless, even with supplemental aids and services, education in regular classes cannot be achieved satisfactorily. [20 United States Code (U.S.C.) Sec. 1412(a)(5)(A); 34 Code of Federal Regulations (C.F.R.) Sec. 300.114.]

Children develop a positive understanding of themselves and others
Children learn academic skills
Friendships develop

What does this mean for the music room?
In the music room all students are welcome. Each student has an individual goal for each unit and skill we are studying. Students will work together frequently as peer tutors and helpers. Students will work collaboratively with one another and with guidance from Mrs. Reinecker. Accommodations will be provided as needed to ensure all student success (this can be in the place of a physical accommodation for playing an instrument or a testing accommodation, depending on the student need). All students will be treated with respect and expected to use appropriate behaviors and follow all rules in the classroom. In the music room the UDL is created using the following:
- multiple presentation materials, like technology (Smart Board, PowerPoint, Prezi etc.)
- considering how well the students are responding to the materials and assessment of the skills and concept comprehension
- engaging the students in the learning process by interest and motivational strategies
