Mindy Martin
Fourth Grade Teacher
A little about myself… My name is Mindy Martin and I was born and raised in Evansville, Indiana. In 1997, I was granted an athletic basketball scholarship to attend, Olney Central College in Olney Illinois. At Olney Central I received my Associates Degree and was recruited at the National Junior College Basketball Tournament to play basketball for Catawba College located in Salisbury, North Carolina. Again, in 1999 I was granted an athletic basketball scholarship to attend Catawba College. In 2001, I received my Bachelors of Arts in Communications Degree from Catawba. After college I became a Financial Advisor for Bank of America in Charlotte, North Carolina and I continued this career for 5 years. During this time I also volunteered for Junior Achievement. Junior Achievement is a non-profit organization that brings the real world to students through hands-on curriculum delivered by a trained classroom volunteer. Through this program I realized my heart was not in banking and I decided to become an educator. I enrolled at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where I received my Licensure in Elementary Education in 2008. My first teaching position was located in Elizabethtown, North Carolina for Eckerd Youth Alternatives, a non-profit provider of services for at-risk youth and their families. As a teacher at Eckerd I provided educational experiences through group and individualized instruction directed toward ensuring academic growth. My experience at Eckerd provided me with the knowledge to educate the whole youth: mind, body and spirit. In October 2009 I accepted a position at Hawk Eye Elementary in Raeford, North Carolina and taught there for 4 years teaching fourth and fifth grade. While at Hawk Eye I received training and experience as a Thinking Maps trainer, Positive Behavior Intervention Systems trained, Curriculum Mapping, Battle of the Books and a basketball coach. I have now been a Raider and part of this community for 12 years. My goal is to always provide the best education I can for each student that I come in contact with each and every day. I am blessed to have the chance to help our students become tomorrow’s leaders.
My philosophy for learning is that each child is unique, and each child learns in a different way. One of my jobs as a teacher is to help your child discover his or her individuality and work alongside with them to maximize it. I believe in hands-on experiences, learning creatively, and learning through real-world experiences. It is my goal to create a community of learners who are committed to working hard while having fun. I want students to leave my classroom feeling confident that they can apply what they’ve learned in school to real-life situations. I want my students to feel challenged and to have an enhanced passion for learning.
Collaboration, cooperation, and open communication between home and school are keys to building a strong foundation for a successful school year. Please feel free to contact me at any time. I can be reached through the main office at Taylor Road (614-367-2930) or via e-mail (mindy.martin@reyn.org). If you would like to talk in person, I am available to schedule appointments before and after school.
Yours in Education,
Mindy Martin
