Welcome:
I am excited about the opportunity to get to know you, and I look forward to a fantastic year together. Through skill-building, problem-solving, and collaboration, your mathematical thinking skills will grow.
Google Classroom:
All material related to Math 6 will be posted in Google Classroom. Students will be provided login information from their leadership teacher. This information will also be recorded in the student's agenda.
In Google Classroom, students will have access to class materials. In addition, students can access class notes and study materials. When absent, students should visit Google Classroom to find class and homework assignments.
Expectations:
Every day, students are expected to come to class prepared with the necessary materials and a great attitude. Also, students are expected to exhibit their very best behavior.
Students are to be kind, quiet, and attentive during instruction. Students must remain seated unless given permission.
Supplies:
** Students are expected to have all materials every day.
-Three-ring binder (The binder may be shared with other classes.)
-Loose-leaf notebook paper
-Sharpened pencils or mechanical pencils with plenty of extra lead
-Erasers
-TI-30 scientific calculator (Any version is okay.)
Homework Policy:
Most of the time, homework is checked for completion and effort. Occasionally, homework may be checked for accuracy. Sometimes, a warm-up or an exit ticket may be assessed as a homework grade. All work MUST be shown on each problem to receive credit. Answers will be provided for all homework in class; however, only a few of the problems will be demonstrated for clarification. Students should be able to use those examples to locate and correct their mistakes on other problems. The STUDENT is responsible for making corrections on homework and asking questions if clarification is needed.
Homework should be expected almost every night. It is occasionally assigned on Fridays. Students should NOT have to spend large amounts of time on homework. If this becomes a problem, please speak to the teacher.
Test and Quiz Policy:
Each unit or chapter will have at least one test based on the information learned in class. Students will have prior notice of these tests and will review the material in class. The test dates will be announced.
Throughout the unit, there will be quizzes. The quizzes may be announced or unannounced. If students study daily and complete homework regularly, quizzes should not cause an issue.
If students miss tests or quizzes due to an absence, they must see the teacher. Arrangements must be made with the teacher BEFORE the student attends Friday make-up testing sessions. Tests and quizzes must be completed within five school days of their return.
Make-Up Work Policy:
Make-up work needs to be completed within five days of the absence. Assignments that need to be completed will be placed in the make-up work folders hanging in the classroom, filed under the student's class period. It is the student's responsibility to check the make-up folders after an absence to find the missing work.
Late Work Policy:
Late work is not accepted, and zeros will be recorded for any late homework assignments. If a project is late, 10 points will be deducted for each school day it is late. It is the student's responsibility to complete any missing homework. Homework builds on content taught in class, so students cannot afford to miss homework assignments. Students must complete all assigned work on time because missing assignments can negatively impact their final grade. An oops pass may only be used for small homework assignments.
Please remember the Oops pass assignment is STILL DUE the following day for full credit. It is the student's responsibility to turn in the assignment. The teacher will not ask the student for the Oops pass assignment.
Grading Policy:
Report cards are printed at the end of each quarter. The South Carolina Uniform Grading Scale will be used. This scale is as follows:
100-90 A 89-80 B 79-70 C 69-60 D 59-0 F
Both students and parents are encouraged to check grades online often.
