Syllabus

A little bit about this class: Get excited. All of that Algebra and Geometry you've learned throughout the past few years will come together to form the beautiful subject of Precalculus. We will be looking at all sorts of functions, some you have seen and others you may not have. These include linear, quadratic, rational, radical, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions. By working hard in this course, you will expand on the knowledge you gained from Algebra II, and be prepared for any Calculus class you may take in high school or in college.

Our classroom environment: In order to have a productive year, let’s have a few guidelines:

1. Be respectful.

2. Be positive.

3. Work hard.

All rules in the student handbook also apply to this class. I don’t expect to have any problems, but if any issues cannot be dealt with individually, consequences will range from parental phone calls to principal referrals.

Cell Phone Policy: Cellphones are not permitted to be used during class. If a parent or guardian needs to contact his or her student, a call should be placed through the main office. All students are required to buy or rent a graphing calculator, If you use your cell phone in class, the following consequences will be given:

1st offense: Cell phone will be taken and returned at the end of class.

2nd offense: Cell phone will be taken to main office and a parent or guardian will have to pick it up.

Tardy Policy: All students are expected to be in class when the bell rings. If you are late, the following consequences will be given:

1st tardy: Happens to the best of us.

2nd tardy: Warning

3rd tardy: Contact home

4th tardy: Administrative Referral

5th tardy: Meeting with Administration

Grading: 100% Assessments (Chapter Tests, and Final Exam)

A note about homework: Homework completion does not count toward your grade. However, it is essential that you are practicing the topics we are learning in class. This is an upper level math class, and it will be extremely difficult to succeed if you don't do your homework. I try to keep all assignments short, between ten and fifteen problems, and we often have time to work in class. Furthermore, I will still collect and record your homework. It is highly recommended that you come in for extra help if you are struggling with your homework. Speaking of good segues...

Extra Help: I am available Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays from 7:30-8:15. I have meetings on Wednesday and Thursday mornings. I am available most days after school, and will always give advance notice on days I can't be here. Pride Time will be an excellent opportunity this year to get extra help within the school day.
