Welcome to Mr. Martin's world literature course. This is the website where you will find everything pertaining to your class. Below are the syllabus, class calendar, and supply list for the upcoming year. If you have questions about class, e-mail me at lmartinclass@gmail.com. I can be found in Room 106.
Syllabus
Texts to be issued by instructor:
Prentice Hall Literature: Timeless Voices, Timeless Themes, Platinum Level
ISBN: 0131804359
Elements of Language
ISBN: 9780030941962
This course is a survey of world literature. This will include the close study of several longer texts and the comparison of many shorter works from different cultures. Vocabulary, grammar, and composition will also be emphasized. This course will require a substantial amount of reading and individual and group work outside the classroom. Be aware that tests and exams will be cumulative and will include elements of literature, grammar, and vocabulary.
Classroom Policies
The student will respect both the instructor and his or her classmates. Any behavior that the instructor deems disrespectful will result in a warning and a daily conduct grade of 3 for the first offense. A second offense will merit a daily conduct grade of 4. For certain offenses no warning will be given. Cell phones will be turned in at the beginning of each class period and returned at the end of class.
No food is allowed in the classroom. Food should be consumed in the cafeteria or outside of school. The only drink allowed in the classroom is bottled water. Please finish any other drinks before entering the classroom.
When the student enters class, the day’s assignments will be on the board; the student should start these as soon as the bell rings. Homework and upcoming assignments will also be listed on the board, and it is the student’s responsibility to be aware of these.
If a student is absent, they must make up any classwork, quizzes, tests, etc., the day they return to school unless they make other arrangements with the instructor. If the student misses this class but is at school on the day of a quiz or test, then they must take the quiz or test after school unless other arrangements have been made with the instructor. Because all writing assignments will be handed in via www.turnitin.com, they will be due by the specified date whether or not the student is at school. Every writing assignment must be turned in to this website unless it is done in class. It is the student’s responsibility to obtain assignments and notes that he or she misses due to absence. The assignments can be found on the class website.
Be on time. Unexcused tardiness is not acceptable.
