I was born in New Jersey, but grew up in a town called Yorba Linda in Orange County, California. I went to college at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and earned my Bachelor of Science in Physical Education with an emphasis in Corporate Commercial Fitness. I worked in the Health and Fitness industry for a few years, I was a personal trainer, I worked in the restaurant industry for a long time as a display chef, I started a carpet and upholstery cleaning business, and worked in the private aircraft industry creating sales packages for private aircraft. I then finally heard my calling that I should become a teacher.
That was more than 25 years ago, so I think I made the right choice. I earned my teaching credentials in Physical Education, Health, and Science, at Cal Sate Fullerton and started working at Lincoln Middle School that next September, not as a PE teacher but the technology teacher. After teaching computer applications and typing for the next 9 years, I was finally able to start teaching a 7th grade PE class and had a great experience. In 2009 I taught PE again and was teaching 2 periods of PE and 3 periods of computers. I enjoyed both subjects tremendously. In the fall of 2012, 17 years after interviewing to become a full time PE teacher, I finally was given that position. Patience pays off. This is now my 28th year at Lincoln.
I live in Ventura, California with my son George, who is 16, and daughter Julia Rose, who is 13 and who is also in middle school 8th Grade. I enjoy my 55 mile commute each way, every day, up and down PCH to get here and back. Yes, I love teaching at Lincoln that much!
Life is what you make of it. Set important goals for yourself, work hard, expect a setback or two here and there, but never give up. Do this and you will do well in this life.
Good Luck this year,
Mr. DiLeo
