FRIDAY:
Day one came and went with a few delays here and there, but nothing serious. The weather in Florida started out better than expected. We did receive a steady rain for a few hours but then it cleared out and became a bit cooler. The kids had a wonderful time enjoying DIsney's Hollywood Studios. The crowds were not too bad. There was even an adventurous bunch that happened to run into Steven Tyler from AEROSMITH, who was in the parks celebrating his birthday!!! Many selfies were taken.
I have a few photos that I will share on the Weebly site soon. NOTE: The Login shown on the Weebly site is not necessary. You should be able to just click on TRAVEL JOURNAL and drop down to each day for updates.
SATURDAY:
What an AMAZING day!!! We spent a full day in the Magic Kingdom, where the MARCHING RED DEVILS performed at the Festival of Fantasy Pre-Parade through Frontierland, Liberty Square and Main Street USA. Enjoy some photos and video of the wonderful day!!!
SUNDAY:
WOW!!! What a crazy day. Four Workshops took place with our students all around the Disney property. The Color Guard participated in an "Auxileration" workshop, which brings the student through the entire parade entertainment process - from audition to rehearsal to final performance. The Instrumental musicians participated in the "You're Instrumental" workshop, where they learned about what it takes to be a professional musician in the entertainment industry - with an emphasis on the recording studio musician. They even recorded an excerpt of music from Walt Disney's TARZAN.
The rest of the day was spent at Epcot, with beautiful weather (colder than is typical for Florida, but not SNOW, so it was all good)
Orchestra performances tomorrow.
MONDAY:
BRAVO to the orchestras!!!! Both groups performed amazingly well at Downtown Disney today. This was followed by an afternoon at Epcot, a private character dinner where the students were visited by Mickey, Minnie, Chip, Dale, Goofy and Donald. Finally, we watched ILLUMINATIONS: Reflections of Earth before coming back to the rooms.
TUESDAY:
Today, we traveled to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. The students enjoyed the rides and attractions all day until early evening. We then returned to Downtown DIsney, where students had time to shop, eat and participate in Disneyquest indoor interactive theme park.
WEDNESDAY:
After packing up and spending the day in Disney's Animal Kingdom, the students are now at the airport waiting to return home. After speaking with many students, it seems that this was one of the most successful trips we have ever had. Thanks to all of the students for following directions - even when they would suddenly change. Thanks also to everyone for taking the performances and workshop seriously. The Disney Cast members involved with everything were quite impressed with both the skill level of the ensembles as well as the overall enthusiasm you brought to the week. Thanks to the parents for their continued support of the program and of the fine arts in general. This trip is now a memory that the students will take with them for the rest of their lives.
Please feel free to share your photos with me and I will place more of them on the website. If you took any photos with Disney's Photopass, be sure to send me through EMAIL the photopass card number (or just email me a photo of it)
Thanks again!
Mr. M
