Kinetoplastid Molecular Cell Biology Meeting (KMCB)

Talks:

As per the email you received, you will have either 15 minutes to present plus 3-5 minutes for questions, 12 minutes to present plus 2-3 minutes for questions, or 3 minutes to present with no questions (see below for more information about these Turbo talks). These times will be strictly enforced.  

You will present in an auditorium at the MBL, and the presentation will be streamed through Zoom so that the virtual audience can attend as well. Talk recordings will be posted on a password-protected Zoom page accessible to all meeting attendees for two weeks after the meeting.

Presentation logistics:

• Bring your presentation on a USB stick for upload. You should bring it to the MBL team in the back of Clapp Auditorium the day before your presentation.

• Save your presentation as a PowerPoint or Keynote file. PDFs sometimes cause playback issues.  

• Arrive in the auditorium at least 15 minutes before the beginning of your talk session.

• We will take questions from both in-person and virtual attendees. The virtual audience will ask questions using the Zoom Q&A feature. The moderator will ask you the questions verbally, so you do NOT need to monitor anything on Zoom.

Turbo talks:

Turbo Talk presenters will present a short 3-minute talk at the end of an in-person talk session. You will then present a poster in the poster session that follows your talk. In your Turbo Talk, be sure to direct us to your poster session and number. 

For your turbo talk, you will have 3 minutes to briefly present the background and essential question or finding of your research. You should not focus on presenting your data; instead, provide an intro that motivates people to visit your poster and discuss your data there. Please prepare no more than 3 slides. There will be no questions from the audience following your talk.

Posters:

Poster presenters will present in one of the 2 poster sessions.

• Your printed poster must be no more than 42 inches wide by 60 inches high. 

• When the abstract book and conference program are published, you will be able to see which poster session time you are assigned to. There are poster sessions on Wednesday and Thursday of the conference.

• MBL will provide poster boards and pins for you to use. You can put up your poster anytime on the day of your assigned poster session.

The Kinetoplastid Molecular Cell Biology (KMCB) meeting is dedicated to providing a safe, inclusive, respectful, and productive environment for all participants. This Code of Conduct applies to all attendees, speakers, organizers, sponsors, exhibitors, and volunteers, including participation in person and through any online platforms used by the meeting.

By participating in the KMCB meeting, all individuals agree to abide by this Code of Conduct.

Expected Behavior

All participants are expected to:

• Treat others with professionalism, respect, and courtesy

• Engage in constructive and respectful scientific discussion

• Be mindful of the diverse backgrounds, identities, and perspectives of fellow participants

• Follow the rules and policies of the meeting venue and any online platforms used

Unacceptable Behavior

Harassment, discrimination, or inappropriate conduct will not be tolerated. Unacceptable behavior includes, but is not limited to:

• Harassment or discrimination based on race, ethnicity, nationality, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, age, religion, physical appearance, or career stage

• Verbal, written, or visual harassment, including offensive comments, jokes, or imagery

• Intimidation, threats, stalking, or unwanted physical contact

• Disruption of talks, sessions, or other meeting activities

• Inappropriate or unwelcome sexual attention

• Sustained or repeated disruption of events

• Recording, photographing, or distributing meeting content without explicit permission from the presenter

• Violating the rules or terms of service of meeting venues or online platforms used by the meeting (e.g., videoconferencing or messaging platforms)

This Code of Conduct applies to all meeting-related spaces, including scientific sessions, poster sessions, social events, and online forums.

Social Media, Photography, and Recording Policy

Participants must respect the intellectual property, privacy, and consent of presenters and attendees.

• Recording (audio or video), photographing, or capturing screenshots of presentations, posters, slides, or discussions is not permitted without explicit permission from the presenter

• Sharing presentation content, images, or recordings on social media or other public platforms requires prior consent from the presenter

• Presenters may indicate their preferences regarding recording or social media sharing, and these preferences must be respected

• Meeting organizers may record sessions for official meeting purposes; such recordings will be clearly indicated in advance

Unauthorized recording or distribution of meeting content constitutes a violation of this Code of Conduct.

Reporting Concerns

Participants who experience or witness behavior that violates this Code of Conduct are encouraged to report it promptly.

Reports may be made to:

• Any member of the KMCB Organizing Committee

• Session chairs or meeting organizers

Reports will be handled as confidentially as possible. Anonymous reports will be accepted, although anonymity may limit the ability to investigate fully. All reports will be taken seriously and addressed in a timely manner.

Enforcement and Consequences

The KMCB Organizing Committee reserves the right to take appropriate action in response to violations of this Code of Conduct. Actions will be determined based on the severity and context of the violation and may include:

• Verbal or written warnings

• Removal from a session or event

• Revocation of meeting access (in person or virtual), without refund

• Exclusion from future KMCB meetings

Failure to comply with corrective actions may result in additional consequences.

Non-Retaliation Policy

Retaliation against any individual who reports a concern or participates in an investigation will not be tolerated. Retaliatory behavior may result in further sanctions.

We strive to create a meeting environment that is welcoming and supportive of participants from all backgrounds and career stages. These commitments are reflected in the expectations and standards outlined in this Code of Conduct.

Participation in the KMCB meeting constitutes acceptance of this Code of Conduct and agreement to abide by its principles.
