Generative AI and the Path to Artificial General Intelligence

I feel honored to be attending this seminar by KIKX at the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM).

Generative AI algorithms like ChatGPT and Stable Diffusion have taken the world by storm, opening people's eyes to AI's potential to invent, create, and replace humans in a variety of white-collar jobs. But while these algorithms can often impersonate intelligence with remarkable accuracy, they also have severe limitations in terms of truthfulness, semantic understanding, and the production of fundamental novelty. There is no consensus among experts on the relationship of modern generative AI algorithms to the pursuit of artificial general intelligence (AGI) with capabilities at the human level and beyond. The most strongly supported perspective is that the large transformer neural networks underlying generative AI systems are capable of serving as statistical pattern recognition and generation components within broader AGI architectures, but that an effective AGI architecture will need to be centered on principles and structures quite different from those of current generative AI systems. The OpenCog Hyperon project provides one route to incorporating generative AI networks into a broader cognitive architecture, that incorporates neural, symbolic, and evolutionary aspects and is currently being explored and evaluated in several application areas, including longevity genomics, and control of humanoid avatars and robots.

CLIMATE EQUITY EVENT @ECN (EASTSIDE COMMUNITY NETWORK) HELD AT 3RD JUNE, 2024

Anticipated as an Instructor in Summer camp, at the College of Engineering @Wayne State University

I participated in a 3-day workshop sponsored by Aramco at Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University. I'd like to express my appreciation to Dr. Abdulhamed Almojil, Chair Supervisor, Aramco Traffic Safety, for the training session regarding how to operate the SIDRA program for designing roundabouts and traffic safety, and to Engr. Khurram Shahid Minhas for the SIDRA program training session on designing roundabouts and traffic safety.

I would also like to thank Professor Arshad Jamal Khattak for extending support for such a forum on the university premises.
