It has been a few years since the last Flower Festival in Widdington.

When I remember making coffees and teas for the workforce as they created the most beautiful arrangements in the church. Nine years on, I am proud to say I have been promoted and now sit on the organising committee!

I don’t think anything can quite capture that wonderful over

loading of the senses when you enter a church filled with

the most heavenly flowers. The scent and sight of our beautiful St Mary’s with some magnificent displays is not to be missed. The festival this year will be taking place on the weekend of the 13th and 14th of June and the theme for the flower arrangements is “Wedding Anniversaries” (paper, wood, cotton,

silver, gold – for those who need a little reminder!)

You are also invited to view the beautiful gardens of Ken and

Wendy Kemp of South Green handily situated near the Church so

please do pop by and say hello.

After we have indulged your sense of sight and smell Anthony Gold

would like to tempt your taste buds with an invitation for coffee,

homemade cakes as well as cream teas and light lunches in the

garden of School House (opposite the church). I know for certain

they will be delicious as the catering is being arranged by

Alix Avery and Chris Walton.

The grand opening of the flower festival will take place at the

Church on Friday evening the 12th June with a talk by renowned

speaker Barry Kaufmann-Wright on ‘Wildlife in the Garden’.

This will be followed by drinks and canapés. If you would like

to attend the talk tickets will be available nearer the time.

The festival is a free event but there will be buckets peppered

around your walk in aid of St

Mary’s Church so please come laden

with heavy pockets and hopefully not umbrellas!
