Teaching Young Children Social and Emotional Competencies
This presentation and sectional will provide an overview of what social and emotional skills are, why they are important, and how they can be taught in an early childhood classroom.
Kayte Gut, Professor of Early Childhood Education
Kayte Gut currently serves a professor of early childhood education at Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota. Since graduating from Martin Luther College in 2002, she has served in Charlotte, North Carolina; Houston, Texas; and Westminster, Colorado. She has held a variety of positions ranging from early childhood director and teacher to first grade teacher and athletic director. In 2020, she received her master's degree from MLC in educational administration with a focus on early childhood programs. She wrote her thesis on social and emotional education in WELS early childhood programs, highlighting the importance and impact social and emotional education has on the children in our WELS ECMs.
