This session will ask us to reexamine some ingrained beliefs about homework as well as some myths, and to realize that most of us were never trained in effective homework practices. Today’s challenges of diversity of students as well as diversity in parenting styles require a new paradigm—creating quality tasks, differentiating for both students and parents, deemphasizing grading, using completion strategies, and providing structured homework support programs. The evolution of homework practices and national trends will also be discussed.
