There are two areas of Christian life as a disciple of the Lord and a baptized child of God: Justification (our declared status, "Not guilty!" before the Holy One) and Sanctification (loving God and our neighbor, this side of heaven). As the Spirit of effective grace works through teaching-disciplers, a balanced and intentional use of the Law and the Gospel is necessary and beneficial. Common terminology may not label them as such, but the four legs with which Lutheran teachers disciple Jesus' lambs and sheep best are: 1) Justification Law, 2) Justification Gospel, 3) Sanctification Law, and, 4) Sanctification Gospel. When all four are applied eternal souls are served (discipleship) and lives of love are shaped (discipline). Classroom and character will be blessed! Martin Luther said that he would bestow the title of "Doctor of Holy Writ" on those who are well versed in the art of applying Law and Gospel. This session will seek to equip every teacher, any level, in every lesson in the Word, in every behavioral interaction/intervention with the Spirit's best and a sure connection to Jesus, the Christ.
