Physical education is not throw out the ball and play a game or have an extra recess. It is a class that involves teaching specific topics and skills. The goal of PE is to create informed, life-long active person who will strive to live a healthy and active lifestyle. I have been able to teach SPARK PE at St. Mark’s since 2008 to grades ranging from 2-5th. It is a great teacher friendly curriculum that allows ALL teachers, not just PE trained or athletically gifted teachers to teach these skills to our students.
In this sectional we will focus on the basics of SPARK and go through an actual lesson. You will be up and active trying out some of the activities and skills… you have been warned. It is my goal that after attending this sectional you would feel more comfortable teaching PE and have concrete ways that you can take back to use or improve your (or your school’s) PE classes, instruction, and curriculum especially based around the SPARK PE curriculum.
