About me

I am a conservation biologist in the broad sense, currently mainly focused on the study of the ecology and evolution of invasive species on island ecosystems.

I was born in Tenerife (Canary Islands) and did my PhD in Biology at University of La Laguna and Estación Biólogica de Doñana (2008) (Mentor: Dr. Fernando Hiraldo). Between 2008 and 2010 I moved as a Marie Curie Outgoing Fellowship to the Department of Evolution and Ecology (University of California Davis) and the Department of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology (Harvard University) to work in Dr. Thomas W. Schoener and Dr. Jonathan B. Losos Labs, respectively. After that time I joined the Island and Evolution Research Group (IERG) at IPNA-CSIC for one more year. Later I was awarded a JAE-doc postdoctoral fellowship to join the Terrestrial Ecology Lab IMEDEA-CSIC (2011-2014), working later at the University of La Laguna (2014-2016). In October 2017, I was hired to lead my own research group at GEEI-IPNA-CSIC, within a 5-year postdoctoral competitive research program funded by the Government of Tenerife. In 2022 I got a permanent positition at the IPNA-CSIC as a Specialized Technician in Island Terrestrial Conservation: Invasive Species.
