About me

I am a conservation biologist in the broad sense, currently mainly focused on the study of the ecology and evolution of invasive species on island ecosystems with the aim of producing applied results to guide these species management.

I was born in Tenerife (Canary Islands), having done my PhD in Biology at University of La Laguna and Estación Biólogica de Doñana (2008). Between 2008 and 2010 I worked as a Marie Curie Outgoing Fellowship at the Department of Evolution and Ecology (University of California Davis) and the Department of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology (Harvard University). After that time I joined the Island and Evolution Research Group (IERG) at IPNA-CSIC for one more year. Later I was awarded a JAE-doc postdoctoral fellowship to join the Terrestrial Ecology Lab IMEDEA-CSIC (2011-2014), later joining the Plant Conservation and Biogeography Group at the University of La Laguna (2014-2016). In October 2017, I was hired GEEI-IPNA-CSIC, within a 5-year postdoctoral competitive research program funded by the Council of Tenerife. In 2022 I got a permanent positition at the IPNA-CSIC as a Specialized Technician in Island Terrestrial Conservation: Invasive Species. I am currently working at the CSIC Delegation in the Canary Islands, where I lead the group Science for Biodiversity Conservation (COBIO-CSIC).
