About Ms. Baker

Who is my teacher?

Ms. MK Baker is a dedicated educator with a demonstrated commitment to improving education and the lives of her students. Ms. Baker graduated from NC State University with a degree in Science Education. She has taught at Athens Drive High School and Millbrook High School in Raleigh, NC, and currently teaches AP Biology and Engineering Design III at Wake STEM Early College High School. In addition to incorporating Project-Based-Learning in her classroom, Ms. Baker trains and coaches Wake County Public School System teachers in the PBL Works Gold Standard PBL model through the SummerSTEM Program. She is National Board Certified in Adolescent and Young Adult Science Education, and has scored NBPTS Component I exercises for physics teachers for 8 years. Beginning in June 2023, she will supervise the scoring on this annual project. Ms. Baker also assists in Bias Reviews for NCFE and NC EOC testing, and participates in PBL Curriculum Writing for WCPSS. 

In addition to her leadership in education, Ms. Baker is an advocate for student well-being and a supporter of extracurricular activities. She is a member of NCAE and advises both the Gender and Sexuality Alliance and the Art Club at Wake STEM. Next year, she will also co-advise Student Government. Her passion for social and emotional learning, trauma-informed teaching practices, and educational equity is evident in her mission to empower underrepresented student groups to take ownership and management over their learning.
