There are, of course, no bones in the stomach. This idiom derives its whimsical humor from the silliness of the idea of having a bone in your belly that breaks due to the force of your laughter. The link to the belly makes sense given that laughing a lot makes your stomach tense up or even hurt. While there is no perfect English equivalent, 'bust a gut laughing' has a similar meaning.
