Saya Date (MIT class of 2015) took her first tango class at MIT many years ago to fulfill a PE requirement, not realizing that tango would find her again much later in life—and change it profoundly. Today, she is a filmmaker and dancer, and she recently completed her debut feature film Tango Malhar, which follows a young rickshaw driver in India who stumbles into the world of Argentine tango.
The film premiered last month at BAFICI, Buenos Aires’ premier film festival, and the MIT Tango Club is thrilled to host Saya and screen her film for the MIT and the greater Boston tango community. Saya will also host a Q&A and discuss the film’s journey and how tango has shaped her own.
