Swedish massage therapy is the most well-known and widely practiced type of therapeutic massage—and for good reason. This type of massage focuses on muscle relaxation, targeting superficial muscles (rather than the connective tissues targeted in deep-tissue massage) and increasing blood circulation. It is a great way to treat yourself.
Intuitive Massage Therapy
Our recommended treatment is a customized massage for your specific problem areas. Rebecca is trained in many different modalities so that you get exactly the type of treatment you need. The session consists of assessing your areas of concern and over-all purpose for being there, determining the level of pressure and techniques to be used, and mindfully assisting the client to return to homeostasis. The customized treatment will combine a skillful variety of techniques which may include compressions and stretching, energy work, localized cupping & gua sha, heat therapy or essential oils, and seeks to relieve muscle tension, clear energy blocks, and correct postural imbalances.
Nuat Thai Bodywork
Thai Bodywork, named for its popularity in eastern Asia, is great for correcting alignment issues and postural imbalances. It combines passive stretching and movement of joints with techniques that work along energy meridians (called sen in Thai). The whole treatment is a graceful, nurturing, interactive dance that is sensitive to the condition of each person. The effect of Thai Massage is greater flexibility, flow of energy, deep relaxation, and feeling of well being. Traditionally, it is performed on the floor on a mat, and the client wears or brings comfortable clothes that allow for movement. It is sometimes referred to in the Western world as Assisted Yoga, as many of the postures resemble yoga poses.
Prenatal Massage
Prenatal massage is customized for a pregnant woman's needs, and uses mostly Swedish massage techniques, which focus on long, sweeping strokes. Pillows and bolters are used for extra support, and a side-laying approach for those who are no longer comfortable laying on their stomach. Rebecca is trained in prenatal with and emphasis on Traditional Chinese Medicine, which avoids specific meridian points which could potentially be detrimental to mother and baby.
Hot Stone Massage
Recommended for the colder months, combining hot stones with a massage treatment optimizes the relaxation experience. The heat from hot stones expands blood vessels, which encourages blood flow throughout the body, and also softens fascia. This type of therapeutic treatment is thought to have originated in China almost 2,000 years ago. Since then, the technique of using stones for healing has been used in many different cultures.
Somatic Healing Massage
Somatic Healing Therapy is a deeply healing massage modality that offers a client increased mobility and ease of movement through this clothed treatment on the table. Consisting of passive mobility exercises, compression and gentle pressure-point work, this session emphasizes incremental fascial stretching through gentle yet vigorous range-of-motion techniques designed to release psychosomatic holding patterns and postural imbalances. Great for treating PTSD!
