Assembling at Poplars Garden Centre (almost becoming our obligatory starting point) we again gathered for another Saturday morning run. This time we would be heading to the Navigation pub right next to the Canal at Stoke Bruerne.
I was very hopeful, as this event had lured a number of new members and first timers.
With a few late dropouts due to illness and unforeseen circumstances and some unexpected additions we had 19 cars! Including a chap who was just visiting the Garden Centre and ended up tagging along for the whole run!
Due to the nature of the route, the number of cars etc., I decided to split us into 4 groups. This would help navigation, especially for those driving alone. We’ve also found smaller groups work better when carefully passing horses and cyclists.
Our route would again be approx. 50 miles and take around 2hrs. Heading out toward Bedford, then toward Northampton and finally on to Stoke Bruerne. experiencing all the lovely countryside, villages and local landmarks along the way.
Our destination was the Navigation pub, right next to the Grand Union canal at Stoke Bruerne. The location consists of the two canal locks, the Canal Museum, another pub and the towpath walk that takes you to the entrance of Blisworth Tunnel.
On arrival we were glad to see that the car park still had room enough for our group although it was filling up fast! Everyone was in good spirits and had a safe and enjoyable drive, agreeing that the smaller groups had worked well (with only a couple of cars going their ‘own way’)
For those who were lunching, we settled in to an area they call the ‘Nook’. Warming up by the log fire, the food and hospitality was excellent! Once replenished, most went for a stroll along the canal to observe boats going through the locks, visit the museum or find the entrance to Blisworth Tunnel.
