大学院では ，両側回遊魚の一種であるボウズハゼSicyopterus japonicus を研究対象として，生活史と回遊生態に関する研究を行いました (東京大学海洋研究所 / 大学院農学生命科学研究科，指導教員 塚本勝巳教授)。
研究で得られた主要な結果は，本種は成魚が淡水で生活するにもかかわらず，仔魚は塩分がないと発育しないという海洋への高い依存性をもつことでした。すなわち本種にとっては，回遊が生活史の上で必須だということです。
学位取得後は，琉球列島の通し回遊性魚類の多様性について研究を行ってきました (琉球大学，受入研究者 立原一憲教授・戸田守准教授；フランス国立自然史博物館 Professor Philippe Keith)。成魚が河川で同所的に生息する種でも，回遊パタンや仔魚期の特性に違いのあることが分かりました。
2015年から2024年には，新潟大学佐渡自然共生科学センター臨海実験所で主に佐渡島に生息する魚類をはじめとする通し回遊性生物の生態や，沿岸の仔稚魚を初めとする動植物プランクトンの動態についての研究を行ってきました。佐渡島の急峻な河川には固有の生態をもつ通し回遊魚がいること，島嶼の特異な環境が近縁な通し回遊性動物の共存に影響することが分かってきました。
2024年11月に，北海道大学北方生物圏フィールド科学センター臼尻水産実験所に異動しました。北方での水圏生物の生態に関する研究を展開していきたいと考えています。

During my PhD, I worked on life history of an amphidromous migratory fish, Sicyopterus japonicus (Teleostei: Gobiidae: Sicydiinae) under supervision of Prof. Katsumi Tsukamoto at the University of Tokyo. Amphidromy is a type of diadromous migration between marine and freshwater. One of my important findings was they had a high oceanic dependency in spite of they live almost of their life in freshwater.
After PhD, I worked with Prof. Katsunori Tachihara and Dr. Mamoru Toda at University of the Ryukyus in Okinawa, Japan, and Pr. Philippe Keith at Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle de Paris. I continued working on diadromy in fish to understand their diversity and unique life history strategies, and have an insight for the evolutionary origin and process of fish migration in relation to island biogeography.
From 2015 to 2024, I belonged to Marine Biological Station, Sado Island Center for Ecological Sustainability, Niigata University and work on ecology of migratory fish and other aquatic organisms, mainly on Sado Island, Niigata, early life history of marine fish, and dynamics of plankton in the coastal waters of Sado Island. We found unique life history and habitat characteristics of migratory organisms in the islands.
Currently, I have moved to Usujiri Fisheries Station, Hokkaido University and will work on northern aquatic biology.
