About the Program

Our Mission

Founded in 2014, we are a Middlebury College student organization that pairs college students with local high school juniors and seniors from Middlebury Union High School, many of whom are the first in their family to apply to college. Our goal is to provide information and support to students as they navigate their post-graduate plans and apply to colleges. We hope that our mentors can act as positive role models for our mentees' lives beyond just academics and also serve as a resource to relieve unnecessary stress from the college process. For the 2022-2023 program, we are also piloting a program with the Addison Northwest School District.

Mentor/Mentee Selection

Middlebury College student mentors are selected through an application and interview process involving a background check. High school students complete an application through the MUHS guidance office. Mentor-mentee matches are chosen through careful consideration of both applicants' questionnaires, and students are often paired based upon common interests, hobbies, or backgrounds. These matches usually run from January-December of the high school student's junior/senior year, and can exist longer if the student needs more support.

Our Team

The MiddCAM Leadership Board is comprised of five Middlebury students. The Leadership Board works with the Middlebury Center for Community Engagement and MUHS guidance counselors throughout the year to improve the program, run logistics, and provide support for the mentor/mentee relationships. The Leadership Board also coordinates the drop-in hours program with MUHS and Mt. Abraham Union High School.

We currently have 21 mentors and have helped to send 100+ MiddCAM mentees onto college since 2014!
