Mickleover H3 Hash History
Here is a brief account of how we started and continue.
ON ON
The Dobber
Formed : May 10th, 1993
After Hashing with the Norfolk Hash for 2 years while travelling to East Anglia on business, Dave ( The Dobber ) Birkett decided to set up MH3. Dave helped coach, manage and sat on the committee with the Mickleover Jubilee FC junior football club and the parents and children supported for the Hash in it’s early years.
Hash time: Monday night, start time 7.15pm and within an approx. travel time from Derby of 30 mins. That is still the same 25 years on.
1st Hash : May 10th, 1993 Three Horseshoes, Thurvaston, Derby ( Att : 29 )
Hares : Dobber & Pete ( Rawhide ) Milward
The first year saw 5 ( monthly) Monday evening Hashes the last being in July and a winter break until April 1994 when resuming saw a pack of 24 turn out. This year finished in August with a total of 7 Hashes. Trying to get people interested in winter month Hashing, Dobber organised a Xmas Hash, appropriately & deliberately in Ashbourne. Attendances in the first 2 years were averaging 24.
Year 3 saw the introduction of fortnightly Hashes, again with good regular attendances of above 20.
50th Hash : Dec 29th, 1997 Bluebell Inn, Melbourne, Derbys ( Att : 28 )
Year 2000 saw the Hash go to regular Monthly Hashes and all the year, rather than fortnightly and a winter break. This format is still the norm for MH3.
100th Hash : Sept 17th, 2001 Bull’s Head, Wilson, Derbys ( Att : 29 )
150th Hash : Feb 13th, 2006 Red Cow, Allestree, Derby ( Att : 13 )
200th Hash : March 15th, 2010 Horse & Groom, Derby ( Att : 23 )
250th Hash : April 14th, 2014 Chequers Inn, Ticknall, Derbys ( Att : 21 )
300th Hash : June 11th, 2018 Rose & Crown, Brailsford, derby
There have been times when numbers were concerning but the Hash as always come through those periods and attracted more Hashers. We have to give a special thank you to our good friends at QH3 (Quorn )who have been very helpful and supportive of MH3.
Into our 25th year we have seen a lot of people come and go, but everyone who has attended a MH3 Hash, hopefully remembers their time with us and we look forward to seeing many more old and new friends on future Hashes.
