Pahweenvaj (Sake) Ratnatilaka Na Bhuket

I received a BS in Pharmacy from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, and worked as a bioanalyst at the Bioequivalence Study Group of a Government-owned pharmaceutical company in Bangkok for ~1.5 years. Then, I moved to Rojsitthisak's lab at Chulalongkorn University as a research assistant and master's student (Biomedicincal Chemistry program). My previous research experience includes ester prodrug synthesis, development of liquid chromatography-based methods, in vitro drug metabolism, and pharmacokinetics. In 2019, I enrolled the Biological Chemistry PhD program at the University of Utah. I joined Michael Yu's lab in Summer 2020 and transferred to the Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Chemistry PhD program. My PhD works involve the development of novel collagen hybridizing peptides for subretinal fibrosis imaging and deciphering effects of peptoid residues on folding and assembly of collagen triple helix. My activities outside the lab are hiking, watching Netflix, working out, hanging out with my friends, and traveling.

Christopher Young

I am currently a first year Biomedical Engineering PhD student in Michael Yu’s Lab. I received my bachelor’s degree from the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. I am researching self-assembling collagen hybridizing peptide nanofibers to use as a tool to help treat osteoarthritis, macular degeneration, and other diseases. In my free time I like to go rock climbing, cook, and hang out with friends.

Tian Morrison

I'm a first year PhD student in the Biomedical Engineering (BME) program and graduated from the University of Maine (UMaine) with a BS in BME in 2021. At UMaine, I worked in labs researching tissue engineering/biomaterials and human-computer interactions. Currently, my research focuses on using collagen hybridizing peptides to diagnose (and in the future treat) pulmonary fibrosis. Outside the lab, I like to hike, bike, and started skiing this winter.

Undergraduate students

Erika Irene Petty

I received an Associate of Science in University Studies at Utah Valley University. Currently, I am a student in the BS/MS program for Biomedical Engineering at the University of Utah. My project in the lab involves engineering a new collagen hybridizing peptide with an MMP-cleavable sequence. In my free time I like to play cello, skate, cook ,and bake.

Angela C. Teves

My name is Angela Condori-Teves and I am an undergrad in the Biomedical engineering program at the University of Utah, currently doing research in Dr. Yu's lab. Currently I spend my time studying and spending time with my family and pets. My works in the lab involve synthesizing collagen mimetic/hybridizing peptides and performing tissue staining. My goal in life as of now is to become a first-gen college graduate and continue with research in the medical field.
