Brief Description of Novel

Called by Name: Birth of a New Christendom envisions a future where secular rebels and a reinvigorated Christianity challenge a secular and prosperous world made stable by conformity and a wide array of pleasures, including virtually reality fantasy. 

The story mostly takes place in the late 21st century when nations have ceded sovereignty to a United Nations controlled by global plutocrats. 

When a terminal disease threatens the life of Veronica Scott, the world’s richest person, she has her mind downloaded to a computer. Social turmoil erupts as she sells “cyber immortality” to fellow billionaires and seeks absolute political power.

Pope Benedict XVII agrees with those who believe that cyber minds pose an existential threat to humanity. With the help of billionaire supporters and a church made rich by a now prosperous global south, Benedict establishes refuges under the sea and in distant areas of the solar system. Influenced by democratic ideals, these refuges constitute a new form of Christendom that is open and tolerant. Will cyber entities overwhelm the new Christendom? Or will the new Christendom evangelize a new “Roman Empire,” the utopia that secular elites seemed finally to have achieved?
