Other Academic Pursuits
I attended the Middle Level Teacher Symposium in Boone, NC with Dr. Meyer on May 20, 2010. We presented separate research projects and provided mutual support. Dr. Meyer, Dr. Simone, and Dr. Spatig were mentors for my project called “Challenges Facing Public Education in Afghanistan: Examining the State of Middle Level Education.” I prepared a manuscript, poster, and brochure for the conference. My paper was web-published as conference proceedings by the National Association of Professors of Middle Level Education and is available via the following link: http://www.napomle.org/May2010Symposium.html
I coauthored a manuscript with Dr. Spatig, Paula Flaherty, and Tracy Bradley during the fall semester of 2010. The manuscript was prepared for the West Virginia Partnership to Promote Community Wellbeing and served as an internal document. The title of our manuscript was “Getting It Together: A Learning Model of Community Collaboration.” A version of this paper was later modified and submitted for consideration for publication.
I co-taught CI-677 (Writing for Publication) with Dr. Simone during the Spring semester of 2012.
I served as a member of a paleontology research cohort from July 10, 2012 through July 23, 2012. Our group conducted joint research activities in the Big Horn Basin of Wyoming. This activity was undertaken in collaboration with Dr. Suzanne Strait (a member of my doctoral committee). We located, identified, and extracted fossils in addition to attending a paleontology conference at the Washakie County Museum. Joining this cohort provided me with an opportunity to see how various higher education institutions work together to advance the state of scientific knowledge. My acceptance letter, conference schedule, and photographs are archived below.
