I participated in archaeological field expeditions in Cabell County, West Virginia during the summers of 2000, 2001, and 2005 through the Marshall University Archaeology Field School where I gained experience with surface collection methods, surveying techniques, cartographic documentation, artifact identification, controlled excavation, soil sample extraction, soil analysis, and operating an electrical resistance meter to map subsurface features. I also conducted research of multiple Mayan archaeological sites within the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico during the summer of 2002 and visited numerous Aztec sites during the same year. Additionally, I gained experience identifying, categorizing, and processing archaeological artifacts within the Marshall University Archaeology Laboratory as a student employee and I contributed to a Phase 1 survey in Boone County, West Virginia in 2006. I also volunteered extensively to support historic preservation efforts and archaeological research activities related to the Blair Mountain Battlefield from from 2009 to 2014. Having graduated with multiple college degrees, I maintained a keen interest in archaeology, visited several archaeological sites in Costa Rica, and published peer-reviewed articles on historical archaeology sites Appalachia.
