Touring the enchanting Borromean islands on a guided tour with Micaela, a local private guide! Let yourselves be guided on a tour to the wonderful Borromeo islands
It is impossible not be fascinated by the enchanting Borromean islands.
Nestled in the calm waters of beautiful lake Maggiore, these islands emerge in the Borromeo gulf to be admired for their beauty.
Incredible gardens, princely palaces and picturesque villages give these islands a magical atmosphere.
The Borromeo islands are the result of the Borromeos ancestors' great vision.
A long time ago a man called Lancillotto Borromeo decided to buy lake Maggiore's largest island: isola Madre. It was 1501 and soon after a palace was built on the highest point of this mild island and plants of vine, olive and fruit trees were planted transforming the island into a nice garden.
In the following century, Lancilotto's descendants bought fields and houses on the nearby island - nowadays known as Isola Bella - and in the 1630's the glorious gardens were laid out followed by the opulent palace. This is how everything started.....
Today, the Borromean islands together with the Fishermen's island are the highlight of Stresa and lake Maggiore.
Fishermen's island, whose Italian name is Isola Pescatori, does not house palaces or gardens and doesn't belong to the Borromeo family, although when we refer to the Borromean islands, we usually include it in the group!
The Fisherman's island welcomes visitors in its quanit village still inhabited by local families.
