The Miami Group and other members of the Miami Pine Rocklands Coalition held a Rally for the Rocklands on January 17, 2015, along the northern boundary of the proposed developments.
We walked along beautiful Pine Rocklands to Coral Reef Drive (SW 152 St) and rallied in front of the proposed Walmart shopping center. Some participants were dress in butterfly costumes, represented endangered species living here.
Shame on U Rally
A number of members of the Miami Pine Rocklands Coalition, including Miami Group members, participated in a rally outside the main entrance to the University of Miami. The goal was to pressure the University to buy back the property they sold to RAM Realty.
Miami-Dade County Commission Meeting
Pine Rockland as "blighted area"
In 2015, a proposal was been made to declare one property a blighted area in order to raise money for its development. This designation, usually used for developed areas sometimes referred to as "slums", is not appropriate for this property.
This proposal has been placed on the agenda for the March 3 2015 commission meeting. Members of the Miami Pine Rocklands Coalition will attend this meeting to speak against this proposal, originally scheduled for the January 21 meeting agenda.
On March 2, the agenda item to consider the Community Redevelopment Act was withdrawn. In spite of this change, three dozen members of the Miami Pine Rocklands Coalition spoke at the meeting and expressed their opposition to the CRA..
Developement
Despite the efforts of the Miami Pine Rockland Coalition, the pine rocklands tract known as Coral Reef Commons was developed.
