Diversity Expectations: Mr. Ho is committed to providing an atmosphere of learning that is representative of a variety of multicultural perspectives. In order to learn, we must be open to the views of people different than ourselves. Each and every voice in the classroom is important and brings with it a wealth of experiences, values, and beliefs. Throughout the semester, please honor the uniqueness of everyone in the classroom and appreciate the opportunity we have to learn from each other. Please respect other’s opinions and refrain from personal attacks or demeaning comments of any kind.

Grading: Grades will be weighted using the following scale. This scale was created by the math departments at Maize South and Maize High Schools and is used by all math teachers in the two schools. All assignments will be graded by Mr. Ho. Please schedule an appointment to discuss questions and/or comments about graded assignments.
Final 20%
Exams 56% (including Final Exam which will be weighted 2x a normal unit exam)
Assignments 24%
Grading Scale:
A: 100 – 90
B: 89 – 80
C: 79 – 70
D: 69 – 60
F: 59 - 0
Exams: A unit exam is used to determine the mastery level the student has attained. ALL WORK MUST BE SHOWN to obtain full credit. Exams will always be announced and posted in advance.
Assignments: Students will have an assignment every day. Assignments must be completed by the time they are due at the beginning of the following class, unless directed otherwise. Assignments must be completed in pencil. Students are required to show all work on each assignment. Problems without all work shown will be counted wrong, even if their answer is correct. Learning math is like learning an instrument- it takes practice to master it! Although assignments are only worth 24% of the overall grade, my experience has shown that those who practice will master the material for the Exams. One wouldn’t expect to play well in a performance or a game if they did not practice. See “Make-Up Assignments” section for make-up assignment policies.

Attendance and participation are critical for gaining the knowledge and skills necessary to meet the requirements of this course.
Make-Up Assignments: Assignments will be posted in class and on the course website (https://sites.google.com/site/mhomathematics/home). Note that Blackboard will not be used for this class. These assignments will be due on a one-to-one basis as stated in the student handbook. Assignment due the day of the absence is due the day of return. For an absence, please check with a fellow classmate and the course website. Clarification of the assignments are given in student initiated emails to the instructor. The assignment given the day of your absence will be due two days after your return. Make-up work must be turned in with “MAKE-UP” written and highlighted on the top of the assignment, along with the date missed. See the “Make Up Assignments” and “Homework” section in the Student Handbook for more information.

For emergency situations, notify the course instructor via email. Notification must be received the day the situation occurred, before midnight, to be eligible for an exception.
