ECLECTIC GOLF CLUB -- RULES
(Effective from 1 October 2024)
1. For a card to be valid, a player must declare on the first tee, before a ball is struck, that the round of golf about to be played will be entered into the Winter Eclectic competition and the card titled accordingly.
2. Play must be from White tees and the gross score at each hole recorded on a score card, which must be signed. Please date and sum the card (counting no returns as NIL) . The maximum number of cards which can be submitted by a participant is 6 per calendar month. On completion of a round, score cards should be put into the Iain Martin memorial box, located in the locker room, before leaving Mortonhall Golf Club.
3. The World Handicap Index (WHI), as at 1 October, will be used by the Official Recorder to calculate the Eclectic Handicap (EH) using the formula EH = WHI x 0.8 e.g. if WHI = 9.4 then EH = (9.4 x 0.8) = 7.52. Eclectic Handicaps will then be rounded up or down.
4. Individual monthly winners will incur a penalty amounting to 2 strokes for an outright win. The runner(s)-up will incur one penalty stroke for achieving a place but will also receive a prize. [See rule 10 for the number of runner(s)-up / prizewinners]. Penalties will be deducted as in the following example - where the winner has EH of 8, then the new EH = 8 - 2 = 6.
5. Penalties will last for the 6 months after the month for which they were imposed. This means that the winner of, say, December will carry the penalty from January through to March and then from October through to December of the following season. In the same way the OVERALL winner and runner(s)-up in the handicap competition will carry their penalties for all of the following two seasons as detailed in Rule 10.
6. Only the overall winner and runner(s)-up in the handicap competition from the previous season will have any penalty for the cumulative eclectic. This means that the monthly winners and runner(s)-up during the season in question will not have any reduction to their EH taken into account for the cumulative eclectic in that season.
7. As the eclectic is a stroke competition, under no circumstances should any putt be conceded or accepted.
8. The number of members of the Club will not exceed 55 and an Entry Fee of £13 for the 6 month season (or balance thereof) will apply. Entry Fees must be paid to the Treasurer or other Committee Member before the season commences on 1st October.

9. Prizes will be competed for monthly and will be presented at the Annual Meeting in September.
