The Eclectic Golf Club was founded in 1988 when Ken Macfadyen asked Norman McKenzie to start an Eclectic Competition whilst Ken was Captain of Buckstone Golf Club. It was originally formed for members who played on Saturday mornings at Mortonhall Golf Course but later this was altered to include any other members of Mortonhall Golf Club who wished to join.
A committee comprising Norman McKenzie (Organiser), Ken Macfadyen (Scorer), Bob Jackman (Treasurer) and Ken Sives was formed and a simple set of rules was drawn up.
The competition commenced on the first Saturday in October 1988 and finished on the last day of March 1989. The first A.G.M. was held in the clubhouse at Mortonhall on 18th April 1989.
