Dr. Melanie Gurat - Sarmiento graduated with the Degree Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, cum laude in 2007 at Saint Mary’s University. She also finished her Master of Arts in Teaching Mathematics in 2012 in the same school, with academic distinction. In 2017, she completed her Doctor of Philosophy in Science Education, major in Mathematics, at the same university. Dr.
University Research Center Director (August 2025–Present). Leads the planning, implementation, and supervision of university research programs, including development of the institutional research agenda, coordination of faculty and student research activities, and establishment of partnerships with funding agencies and research institutions.
Outstanding Teacher. Faculty member of the School of Graduate Studies for ten years, teaching educational statistics, research methodology, experimental designs, advanced data analysis, test and scale construction, mathematical modeling, and undergraduate mathematics courses. Consistently received the Service Excellence Award (2013–2024).
DOST-SEI CBPSME Project Director. Graduate Scholarship Director/Coordinator for the Capacity Building Program in Science and Mathematics Education (CBPSME), in collaboration with the DOST-SEI and NCGSME.
Trainer, Resource Speaker, and Research Presenter. Serves as trainer for DOST-SEI Project STAR, qualified to train teachers in elementary mathematics, problem-solving, language strategies, and design thinking. Invited resource speaker and regular presenter at local, national, and international research conferences.
Researcher and Author. Published 25 research papers in peer-reviewed journals, with 307 citations and an H-index of 7, demonstrating significant scholarly impact and contribution to the field.
Statistician and Data Scientist. Six years of experience in data analysis; completed the Data Scientist Pathway as a Smarter Philippines through Data Analytics, R&D, Training, and Adoption (SPARTA) Scholar under the Development Academy of the Philippines.
Book Author. Authored/co-authored textbooks including Statistics and Research, Research in Daily Life 2, and Essentials of Statistics and Probability (senior high school, with teacher strategy maps).
