Personal Philosophy Statement
“She believed she could, so she did.” –R.S. Grey, Scoring Wilder
Nursing is an important thing for me to do in my life for a variety of reasons. My mother and her mother are both nurses. I grew up witnessing the devotion and love that goes into caring for patients. The personal attributes that my mother and grandmother possess and their compassion for not only those closest to them, but also to complete strangers, is what I strive for in my career of nursing.
The familiar goal of nurses is to help others. If you are not interested in helping others, then nursing is not for you. I have decided to become a nurse for just that, to help others and to dedicate my life to doing just that. Hospitalization is a very trying time in an individual’s life. Whether their visit is for an illness, injury, or to give birth, a negative outcome is always a possibility. I believe that uncertainty is one of the human race’s biggest fears. Through compassion, advocacy, and personalized care, I hope to help patients and their families during these crucial times.
I truly believe that nurses are a special type of person, not everyone is able to achieve this role. I believe that my role on this beautiful earth is to make a difference in others’ lives. I get personal satisfaction and joy from helping others and making others feel appreciated. Nursing allows me to let these qualities shine and be a part of a team that saves lives.
The medical field is always changing and progressing. As a nurse, I will be constantly learning. I look forward to new experiences daily and the chance to interact with a diverse human population.
