I was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia where I graduated from Trinity Episcopal School in 2008. After high school, I moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and attended Coastal Carolina University. I studied Marine Biology for a year until I discovered I would not be able to be legally certified to scuba dive in the United States due to my asthma.
I then moved to Savannah, Georgia and attended the Savannah College of Art and Design, graduating in 2012 with a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Art: Photography. Throughout my college experience, I remained on the Dean's List for academic GPA and good standings.
After graduating, I moved to Asheville, North Carolina where I helped friends open a brewery. After 3 years of managing and being the photographer for the brewery, I moved to Colorado to fulfill a dream of living in the Rocky Mountains. I lived and worked in Breckenridge, Colorado as a photographer. After a year of living the ski-bum lifestyle, I decided to move back home to Richmond, Virginia and started taking my prerequisites for nursing school.
Other than my mother and grandmother being nurses, there was a very specific incidence that made me feel that I wanted to be a nurse. My grandfather underwent an open heart surgery and ended up taking a turn for the worse while in recovery. He ended up spending 4 weeks in an ICU and wasn't expected to survive. While he was in the ICU, I spent as much time as I could at his bedside. During this time, I observed nurses taking care of him as if he were their grandfather. It left such an overwhelming impression on me that I felt I needed to being making a difference by helping others.
Through nursing, I hope to combine two of my biggest passions in life: helping others and traveling. After graduating, I plan to work for a few years in an ICU before becoming a traveling nurse. Being able to explore different cities in need is my goal. Eventually, when I decide to "settle down", I would like to become a Nurse Practitioner in either a family practice or hospital setting.
