Areas of our Ancestors England Scotland Ireland Canada

England

Our English ancestry came out of Northumberland County, England which is the County that borders Scotland. Here's a link for a map and information about Northumberland:

We know Matthew Todd was born in Warkworth, Northumberland, England. Here's a link showing where Warkworth is located, and provides some information about it:

Morpeth, Northumberland, England was a place for several births and probably the marriage for Robert Todd and Isabella Anderson. Here's a link for a map and information about Morpeth:

Rothbury, Northumberland, England is mentioned for a Todd birth. That birth record also indicated Isabella (Anderson) Todd's father, Alexander Anderson was of Rothbury, and Isabel/Isabella may have been bprn there. Here's a link for Rothbury:

Newbiggin by the Sea, Northumberland, England is mentioned for a Todd birth. Here's a link for Newbiggin by the Sea:

Scotland

Here's a good map showing the areas of Scotland. Apparently, borders and their areas changed over the years, but this should give an idea for the births I showed for our Drummond's and Todd's.

The Scotland's People website has a wealth of historical information for our ancestors. I was able to purchase actual census records, actual birth, marriage and death records for some of our ancestor's from them:

Ireland

Here's a link showing a listing for all the counties of Ireland. Our McMullan and Orr ancestry is probably from County Down and County Antrim:

Here's an overview of County Antrim (we don't know what town area in Antrim, although Belfast is mentioned in the family history book). Belfast is in both Antrim and Down:

Here's an overview of County Down:

John McMullan and Margaret Orr married at Downpatrick, County Down, Ireland. Here's Wikipedia for Downpatrick:

Here's a link for a newspaper article showing St Patrick's Grave, which is in the graveyard of the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Downpatrick were John and Margaret married (note also a link for more info on St Patrick's life):

Quebec, Canada

Here's a basic map of the province of Quebec. Quebec City and Montreal are the towns we know John and Margaret and family were at. Gross Isle or Ile was the emigration point which is said an Island not far from

Quebec City. You get there by going down the St Lawrence Seaway. Travel from Quebec City to Montreal was a pretty good distance, and may have been on the Seaway also during our ancestor's time:

More about Gross Isle or Ile at a Parks Canada website where our ancestor's likely landed after their voyage from Ireland. This addresses 1847 which may be the year our ancestor's arrived:

Here's a link for the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Quebec City where William John McMillan the first was baptized November 7, 1847 and where his funeral service was performed in 1848 when he passed away as an infant:

Here's a website where I found information for our John McMullen on the 1850 Montreal Directory as a shoemaker. You can change the year's at the top, then search by name:

Ontario

Here's a link to an Ontario map, showing the counties as they were in 1880 (note our families lived in Wellington County, and other counties of interest to us may be Frontenac County where Kingston and Loughborough are located, and Peel County where Brampton is located, and I believe York County was where Toronto is located):

There is a lot of historical information at the Wellington County Museum and Archives in Ontario. Perhaps, a family member can go there to do some research to see what information might be available about our ancestors. Also, this is where Margaret Orr lived from 1902 to 1910 when she died as Mrs Andrew Gartley when it was the House of Industry. Here's a link to the Museum website:

I believe Fergus, Ontario would be a very interesting town to visit. This was a very important place for our ancestors, and holds some rich history. At the time our ancestor's lived there it was a mostly Scottish community. Here are some links:
