McCully Lab awarded NIH R15 AREA grant

R15 Specific Aims

Jul 8, 2019

The McCully Lab is excited to announce that the NIGMS will be funding our project, "The Balance between Stability and Function in Naturally Occurring and Engineered Proteins." Designed proteins tend to be unusually thermostable, while proteins designed to complete a specific function tend to be less thermostable. However, proteins in thermophilic organisms are both thermostable and functional. The lab will be investigating how the thermostabilization strategies employed by nature compare with those used by protein designers, and we will be investigating whether there is a trade-off between stability and function when these strategies are deployed.

R15 AREA Awards support research at undergraduate-focused institutions where research projects are primarily carried out by undergraduates.
